Retail : Do You Need More Customers?
In retail, the quickest route to higher sales volumes, and more money in the till, is to increase the number of shoppers that come into the store. If everything else stays the same, an increase in traffic is sure to boost sales. So, how can you go about getting more shoppers to visit your store?
- Place an ad in your local newspaper. If you live in a small community, a small ad in the local newspaper can have a big effect on how many people are drawn into your establishment. The ad does not have to be full page or in color or an insert consisting of lots of pages. Make sure that your add emphasizes some interesting or particularly attractive aspect of your business. If you carry seasonal or holiday items or even everyday items, reminding available shoppers about your merchandise is a sure way to draw shoppers in. Advertising is an excellent way to increase profits.
- Make the front of your store look as attractive as possible. Too many store owners spend so much time arranging the look of the inside of their store that they forget to give the front of it the attention that it deserves. Depending on where your store is located, you could have hundreds, or even thousands, of potential customers walking by each and every day. Whether or not they decide to enter you store or not is partly down to what you are selling and partly down to how your storefront looks. So, make sure that your window display looks perfect and consider buying an awning to cover your window, as they look professional and make you stand out from the stores around you.
- Great service has its own rewards. If you treat every customer who comes into your store respectfully and politely, no matter how much they buy or even if they buy, these customers will spread the word to their friends. Good service creates free advertising. People prefer to shop where they are treated well and each shopping experience is a good experience.
- Get involved in your community and contribute, both personally and financially, to community events. Parades, celebrations and fairs are all great times to get the name of your business in front of prospective shoppers. Look to sponsor them in return for having your business mentioned in announcements or your posters placed in prominent positions. Not only will people see the name of your business but they will also recognize that you care about the community. They will reward your personal touch and efforts by visiting your store.
